Scoring Hartlepool Visit
5th October 2006
Lincoln City face one of their hardest matches of the
season, as free scoring Hartlepool United visit Sincil
Bank on Friday evening.
This match provides Lincoln City's supporters with a
taste of what might have been. The reason being is that
Hartlepool are now managed by Danny Wilson, who was one
of the leading supporter choices for Lincoln City's new
manager.
Instead, Lincoln appointed the duo of John Schofield and
John Deehan. The two Johns have impressed many but they
face a real test of their character tomorrow. After a
wonderful start, Lincoln City currently find themselves
having lost two consecutive matches. Rather unfairly,
this has led some supporters to criticise the team on the
basis of one poor performance, which was at home to Bury
last Saturday.
Tomorrow's match is probably not the one that Schofield
would have wished for, as Hartlepool are one of the form
teams of the division. They have won their past three
matches, having scored 12 goals during these three games.
They also possess the most in-form striker around, in
John Daly, who has scored seven of Hartlepool's last 12
goals.
Lincoln have no injury worries ahead of the match. This
means that Schofield is likely to name the same starting
eleven, especially as midfielder Nicky Eaden has extended
his loan from Nottingham Forest.
Likewise, Wilson is expected to name the same starting
line-up for Hartlepool.
These two clubs first met on April 1st 1922 at Hartlepool
in a Division 3 North fixture that ended as a 1-1 draw.
The reverse fixture took place a week later at Sincil
Bank, and also ended as a 1-1 draw. Please click here for a full historical round-up
of the major results between these two clubs.
