Imps'
Newsround 11/10/06
11th October 2006
Lincoln City's striker Martin Gritton pressed his claims
for a starting role by scoring twice in Lincoln City's
reserves' 3-2 victory at Doncaster Rovers, which took
place yesterday evening.
The Imps went into a 2-0 lead following goals from
Gritton and Ollie Ryan, only for Doncaster's Michele Di
Piedi to half the deficit before half time. Gritton
restored Lincoln's two goal lead before Jason Price
completed the scoring.
This match was perhaps more significant for the return to
fitness of Nat Brown and Gary Birch. Both players have
been injured for several weeks, although Birch remains
match unfit as he only come on as a second half
substitute.
Birch could in fact fit the bill for Spalding United, who
are looking to take an experienced striker on loan.
Spalding manager Phil Hubbard has this week contacted
Lincoln City, along with Notts County and Peterborough
United, as he seeks to bolster his squad with loan
signings.
Two players who are already on loan are Imps' goalkeeper
Ayden Duffy and defender Tom Kemp. Both players have this
week extended their loan spells at Worksop Town and
Tamworth respectively. Duffy will now spend a further two
months at Worksop, while Kemp - who is a target for
Sheffield United - will spend a third and final month at
Tamworth.
