Swindon Town's week became worse on Saturday afternoon after promotion rivals Lincoln City defeated them 1-0 at Swindon.

The only goal of the game was scored by Imps' striker Jamie Forrester, after Swindon failed to clear the ball. This is Forrester's seventh goal in the past three matches, and was sufficient to send Lincoln City to the top of the League Two table.

One player who was not present was Gary Birch as he has opted to join Conference North club Hucknall Town on loan. This is the second loan of Birch's season so far, as he was loaned to Conference club Tamworth in August.

One player who seems destined to remain at Sincil Bank is winger Ryan Semple. Last month, we reported how Chester City had agreed a three month loan deal for Semple with Lincoln City. However, Semple's persistent hamstring injury meant that Chester placed the deal on hold. Currently, Chester are still keen to sign Semple but admit that his injury situation needs resolving or else the deal will die.

Unfortunately, Lincoln's luck did not extend to the FA Cup first round draw, which took place on Saturday afternoon. The live draw saw various mistakes in relation to team's names, but the draw remained after the confusion was sorted. The outcome means that Lincoln City will travel to Port Vale, of League One.

This was the only blip of Lincoln City's week, which was started by the announcement that midfielder Lee Frecklington has signed a two-year contract extension to tie him to Sincil Bank until June 2009. Frecklington is the first of 22 players, whose contracts expire in June 2007, to sort his future out.
