Round Up (12/11)
Port
Vale 2 Lincoln City 1
12th November 2006
Lincoln City exited this season's FA Cup at the first
round stage, which took place yesterday.
Defeat was always likely as The Imps had been drawn
against Port Vale of League One. Alas, Port Vale's higher
league status shone through as they achieved a 2-0
half-time lead.
Vale's first goal was scored by Danny Whitaker, who sent
a low shot past Imps' goalkeeper Alan Marriott for 1-0.
It became 2-0 when former Imps' target Colin Miles found
Akpo Sodje via a pass; Sodje then rounded Marriott to
score.
Lincoln City's consolation came in the 84th minute when
Lee Frecklington headed Lee Beevers' cross into the net
for 2-1. Unfortunately, The Imps could not find the
equaliser leaving all their cup dreams over for another
season.
Frecklington's goal helped him cap an unbelievable week
for the young midfielder, after he was called into the
Republic of Ireland's squad for a B international, which
takes place next Tuesday and is against Scotland.
