Tom Kemp In
Birmingham Trial
1st December 2006
Lincoln City look set to rue their shock decision to
allow Tom Kemp to leave the club. Less than two weeks
after agreeing to terminate Kemp's contract, he has now
joined Championship club Birmingham City on trial.
It is no surprise as in September, a Sunday newspaper
linked Kemp to Premiership club Sheffield United. He has,
in recent weeks, also been linked to both Portsmouth and
his former club Derby County.
Kemp is a product of two youth academies, so Lincoln City
Football Club cannot actually claim all the credit for
his development.
He began his training at Derby County but felt that his
chances would be limited by Derby's highly-rated Tom
Huddlestone. With that in mind, all parties agreed a deal
whereby Kemp joined Lincoln City's youth academy.
Kemp plays at centre back, which is a position that
Lincoln City were initially short of cover for when the
2006/07 season opened. This could have seen him receive
an early opportunity to press his claim for a regular
starting place in the first team.
That proved slightly optimistic and in August 2006, Kemp
joined Conference club Tamworth on a month's loan deal to
gain some first team experience. His time there has been
mixed but he has managed to start several games for
Tamworth.
