Christmas News Round-up (26/12)

26th December 2006

With the transfer window set to reopen on January 1st, there have been several rumours surrounding Lincoln City FC.

The biggest rumour is that right-back Lee Beevers could be set to leave the club, as Swindon Town FC are reported to have made a £600,000 bid according to a national newspaper. However, this unlikely as Swindon have financial concerns plus, the rumour has been denied by Lincoln City FC.

Another player who could be on his way is Lee Frecklington, who is reported to have attracted the attention of bigger clubs. One such club linked to Frecklington is Premiership club Sheffield United, who have given their manager Neil Warnock significant transfer funds to strengthen his squad.

Frecklington is highly rated at Lincoln City, although The Imps showed on Saturday that they can win matches without his midfield presence. The Imps had travelled to Keith Alexander's Peterborough United without the suspended Frecklington. The match ended as a 2-1 victory for Lincoln courtesy of two goals from Ryan Amoo. In-between these two goals, former Imps' midfielder Peter Gain had levelled the scores.

Lincoln City continued their fine Christmas form with an excellent 2-1 victory over county rivals Boston United at Sincil Bank on Boxing Day. Mark Stallard scored Lincoln's first goal, while Jeff Hughes scored the eventual winner. The two wins leave The Imps in third place in the divisional table.

One other transfer rumour is that former Imps' defender Tom Kemp is set for a trial at Championship club Plymouth Argyle. Kemp left Sincil Bank in November via mutual consent and now plays for Tamworth.
