News Round-up (5/8)
5th August 2007
Lincoln City FC have claimed their first piece of
silverware of the new season, albeit silverware related
to last season!
On Wednesday, Lincoln City defeated Championship
newcomers Scunthorpe United to claim the 2006/7
Lincolnshire Senior Cup. The only goal of the game came
deep into second half injury time when Jamie Forrester
converted Dany N'Guessan's cross.
Lincoln took their fine pre-season form into their final
pre-season match that saw them entertain Watford at
Sincil Bank on Sunday. Unfortunately, the match ended as
2-1 defeat for Lincoln. Watford scored both of their
goals during the first half with Ewan Clark and Steve
Kabba on target. To their credit, Lincoln City matched
their higher-level opponents for periods of the match.
Substitute Ollie Ryan continued his impressive pre-season
form by scoring Lincoln's goal in the 68th minute.
Shortly afterwards, he came within an inch of equalising
when he saw a 25-yard shot hit the Watford post.
Depsite Lincoln fielding strong line-ups for both of
these two games, Head Coach John Schofield is still
looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the big kick-off
next Saturday. Expected to sign is attacking midfielder
Ben Wright, who will join from Norweign club I.K.Start;
the move is currently subject to international clearance.
