Ex-Manchester United Youngster To Sign?
30th August 2007
At the time of writing, there are just 36 hours left that
could make or break a football club's season! We are of
course discussing the closure of the transfer window.
Sadly, the transfer window still applies to lower
division clubs. This is a contentious issue, as smaller
clubs often feel the brunt of the window. They are faced
with bringing in players in August to boost their small
squads - players who could be rushed additions. Lincoln
themselves face a similar problem, as their squad lacks
experienced professionals. On the plus side, this could
mean that the younger players, such as Dany N'Guessan and
Owain Warlow are given their opportunities to impress
should Lincoln opt not to make any new signings before
the window closes. Personally, I think we have the talent
in the squad to cope well with the next four months
providing everyone stays injury free. That said, a new
central defender would not go amiss, but more on that
later.
Also on the plus side is that none of Lincoln's players
can be lured away from Sincil Bank until January 2008.
This translates as: Lincoln City's supporters face a
nail-biting 36 hours before they find out if the club can
hold on to midfielder Lee Frecklington. As yet, it would
appear that no bids have been launched but Leeds United
have been linked to the aspiring star of Lincoln's first
team. Fingers crossed, Lincoln should be able to hold on
to Frecklington for at least four more months.
Lincoln's manager John Schofield has admitted that he is
interested in a couple of players, although he has not
named either player. One of these players is thought to
be Chester City's transfer listed Ashley Westwood, after
media reports in Cheshire stated that Lincoln were
competing with Port Vale and Macclesfield Town for
Westwood's signature.
Westwood, who is 31 tomorrow, is a centre-back who began
his career at Manchester United. He has also played for
Northampton Town, where he linked up with John Deehan,
who is now Lincoln's Director of Football.
It is also worth noting that loan deals can still go
ahead after the closure of the transfer window on August
31st.
