News Round-up (20/11)
20th November 2007
It has been awhile since we caught up with the latest
goings on at Sincil Bank; so what has been happening?
Well, there have been some positives but unfortunately,
there have also been some negatives.
Taking events in order, saw Lincoln City claim a very
respectable draw against League One promotion hopefuls
Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup first round. Forest
fielded their potent strike force of ex-Imp Junior Agogo
and Nathan Tyson. Lincoln to their credit were able to
deal with both players quite well. Playing in the
defence, and in fact, starting his first ever match for
Lincoln was youth team prospect Danny Hone. He did not
look out of place and indeed kept his place for Lincoln's
next match at Wycombe Wanderers.
Forest took the lead through McGugan but Lincoln
equalised through a Wilson own goal. It was nothing less
than Lincoln deserved.
The draw for the second round has taken place and Lincoln
face a trip to either Luton Town or Brentford should The
Imps overcome Forest in the replay.
Next up for Lincoln was a match against Wycombe
Wanderers, who are in the mix for promotion. The start of
the match saw two teams who were relatively evenly
matched despite Lincoln's lowly league position. Joining
Hone in the starting line-up were the relatively
inexperienced Owain Warlow and Ollie Ryan, as injuries
dictated some changes to the starting line-up. Also,
making a substutie appearance was youth teamer Lennell
John-Lewis.
Unfortunately, Ryan, who is playing for a new contract,
was dismissed in 27th minute for a two-footed tackle.
Even according to Wycombe, the red card was harsh but
facts are that Lincoln were reduced to ten men. This was
too much for Lincoln to contend with and they soon
conceded a goal. Regrettably, this would prove to be the
only goal of the game as Lincoln succumb to yet another
defeat which leaves them rock bottom.
Next up for Lincoln is a match at home to Notts County.
Without doubt, this is a must win match for Lincoln as
County are only just above them in the league table.
Failure to collect three points from this game would
really indicate that a long hard winter stretches ahead
of The Imps!
In other news, Lincoln striker Steve Torpey has joined
Farsley Celtic on loan. Torpey has struggled to win over
a section of Lincoln's supporters, so a loan spell might
be best for all parties.
Meanwhile, Lincoln have signed Doncaster Rovers'
goalkeeper Ben Smith on a month's loan. The 21-year-old
made his Imps' debut at Wycombe after Lincoln boss Peter
Jackson made the brave decision of dropping fans'
favourite Alan Marriott.
