Sad News for City
16th February 2008
It has been a busy week at Sincil Bank but one news story
sadly towers over the rest.
On Thursday, Imps' boss Peter Jackson revealed that he
has been diagnosed with throat cancer. Fortunately, there
is a 98% chance of survival with this cancer. Already,
Jackson has declared that he is strong enough to fight
the disease. The Forgotten Imp would like to wish him all
the best.
Jackson's treatment for his cancer means that he will
have to take around seven weeks off work. This is four
weeks for treatment plus another two or three weeks to
recover from the treatment.
Taking Jackson's place will be Iffy Onuora and Grant
Brown, who next month will take charge of team affairs
until Jackson returns to work. Obviously Brown needs no
introduction but Onuora does, for he is a new face at
Sincil Bank. Onuora was, on Tuesday, named as the new
assistant-manager of Lincoln City FC. He knows Jackson
well, as they were together at Huddersfield Town.
Tuesday was a good day for Lincoln City, who recorded
their biggest win of the season, away at Accrington
Stanley. The match ended 3-0 to Lincoln with goals - all
rather scrappy admittedly - from Mark Stallard, Ben
Wright and Lee Beevers. Right from the 6th minute when
Stallard scored, Lincoln were always in control although
Accrington did have a couple of good spells of play.
Moving on to Saturday (today) and Lincoln entertained
fellow relegation strugglers Macclesfield Town in another
six-pointer of a fixture. Macclesfield started the
brighter of the two sides and were rewarded in 7th minute
when Gareth Evans converted Terry Dunfield's cross past
Imps' goalkeeper Alan Marriott. Lincoln had several
chances to even the scores before the first half drew to
a close - alas, Macclesfield goalkeeper Jonny Brain made
a couple of excellent saves to deny City players. At the
other end, Marriott pulled off two fine saves to keep
Macclesfield's lead to just one goal. However, in the
39th minute, Brain was injured and had to be replaced by
Tommy Lee.
Lee had little to do for the first half of the second
half, as Lincoln contrived to shoot either high or wide.
That though changed in the 71st minute when a free-kick
towards the Macclesfield goal eventually fell to Lenell
John-Lewis who scored. John-Lewis was instrumental ten
minutes later when he collected the ball from a throw-in
before passing to Jamie Forrester, who made it 2-1 to
Lincoln. Lenell John-Lewis completed a man-of-the-match
performance when he set-up Dany N'Guessan in injury time
to leave the final score as a 3-1 victory to Lincoln
City.
Meanwhile, Imps' defender Jack Cotton has left the club
by mutual consent.
