Imps Rue Second Half Display
8th March 2008
Lincoln City were left to rue a poor second half display
on Friday evening at Chesterfield. The match ended 4-1 to
Chesterfield, as a lacklustre Imps' side capitulated
during the second half.
The first half was a reasonably even affair, as neither
side really created any golden opportunities except in
the 38th minute when Chesterfield scored the opening
goal. Chesterfield had won a serious of attacking
throw-ins; the third eventually reached Lloyd Kerry, who
scored from 10-yards out.
The score became 2-0 in the 51st minute when the
impressive Jack Lester skipped past a couple of Lincoln
defenders before sending the ball past Imps' goalkeeper
Alan Marriott. This seemed to revitalise Lincoln and they
reduced the deficit six minutes later when Louis Dodds'
cross fell to Ben Wright, who had a an easy tap-in for
1-2.
Unfortunately, Lincoln switched off at this point and
almost from a counterattack, Chesterfield scored in the
59th minute. Yet again, it was Lester whose skill turned
The Imps' defence inside out. Lester found the space to
tee-up Peter Leven, who sent a low shot past Marriott.
Lincoln then became a shadow of their recent selves, as
Chesterfield dominated the remainder of the second half.
The scoring was complete in the 80th minute when Jamie
Ward rounded Marriott before unselfishly passing to
Kerry, who scored a simple tap-in.
The one positive news of this week is that Lincoln are
exploring whether they can keep Dodds in a permanent
deal. However, much depends on whether Dodds' parent club
Leicester City offer him a contract extension.
