A much improved Lincoln City side gave Milton Keynes Dons a slight scare last night, although MK Dons finished as 2-1 winners, in the match played at Sincil Bank.

In truth, it was probably impossible for Lincoln to play as badly as they did last week at Peterborough United.

It was a more experienced side that took to field compared with last week's team. However, it took all of three minutes before the game took a decisive turning point. Keith Andrews' cross was partly stopped by Imps' goalkeeper Alan Marriott but Carl Regan was able to prod the loose ball into the net for 1-0. From then, MK dons turned more defensive and Lincoln were unable to break the visitors down.

The game was seemingly put beyond Lincoln in the 54th minute when a more adventurous MK Dons scored a second goal. This time, Jemal Johnson fashioned a goal from nothing when he cut through the Imps' defence before sending a 25-yard shot past Marriott for 2-0. Prior to this, Marriott had made two good saves during the opening minutes of the second half to deny MK Dons.

Lincoln reduced the deficit when a free-kick was met by Lee Beevers but his header was palmed away by Dons' goalkeeper Willy Gueret. The ball fell to Ben Wright but his powerful volley hit the crossbar. However, Wright was quickest to react to the rebound, to bundle the ball over the goal line for 2-1.

Later during the second half, Marriott was forced to make a couple of saves as MK Dons threatened without ever being really dangerous. Lincoln nearly matched their higher opponents except they could only really threaten with speculative efforts on goal.

Overall, a deserved victory for MK Dons but Lincoln can take away some confidence from this match compared to last week's.

Perhaps the biggest story to come out of Sincil Bank this week is that The Imps' board are considering "selling" the name of Sincil Bank to a sponsor. This is a sponsorship opportunity that several clubs have already exploited. At the moment, Imps' Chairman Steff Wright is to canvas opinion about the idea. Personally, we think that it is an idea worth exploring providing that Lincoln do not choose something silly sounding, for example: The Kentucky Fried Chicken's Finger-licking Good Stadium!
