Former Chairman Dies
8th May 2008
Former Lincoln City FC Chairman John Reames has sadly
died at the mere age of 65 after losing his battle
against cancer.
Mr. Reames was a popular figure at Lincoln City FC after
spending 15 years as chairman from 1985 to 2000. This
made him the club's longest serving chairman in Lincoln
City FC's history. He had originally joined the Imps'
board in 1983, which was a time of trouble following the
previous board's resignation.
We are not very good at writing obituaries but we would
like to add tribute to John, who at times kept the club
afloat during his 15 years. Despite this, he had his
critics especially when he took the managerial reigns in
November 1998. That said, he did win a "Manager of
the Month" during his time as manager! Who will
forget his hat that he wore in the dug-out.
In November 2000, he announced that he would sell the
club and severe ties with the boardroom. Even after he
sold his shares, he continued to support the club and
would often be seen at matches both home and away.
We send our condolences to his family.
