Clarke Linked With Lincoln City
29th May 2009
According
to press reports in London today, Lincoln City FC are
interested in signing Billy Clarke.
Clarke is a free agent and is highly sought after, so if
he should join The Imps then it would quite a coup for
Lincoln. He is also the type of player that Lincoln City'
supporters would welcome at Sincil Bank as he is a
quality goal scorer despite his young age.
Notts County have already expressed their interest in
signing Clarke and are believed to have offered him a two
year contract. The bad news for both Lincoln and Notts
County is that newly promoted League One club Brentford -
where this story originates - are also keen to re-sign
Clarke.
Brentford manager Andy Scott confirmed: "Billy is one of the
centre-forwards Im interested in. I spoke to him at
the end of last season, and were monitoring whats
happening with him."
Clarke spent the last few weeks of the season on loan at
Brentford where he scored five goals in eight
appearances, thereby helping Brentford to promotion.
21-year-old Clarke was a surprisingly released earlier
this month by his parent club Ipswich Town. This could be
something to do with his return of just four goals in
fifty-six appearances although over half of these
appearances were as a substitute.
Clarke was loaned to Darlington (9 goals in 25
appearances), Northampton Town (3 goals in 5 appearances)
and Brentford (5 goals in 8 appearances) during the
2008-09 season.
