Two New Full-Backs Required?

It is increasingly likely that Lincoln City manager Peter
Jackson will be looking for two new full-backs this
summer.
Right-back Paul Green has been diagnosed with a hip
injury that will require corrective surgery during the
summer. The operation combined with the recuperation time
could see Green absent from first team football until
January 2010.
It is a major blow for Lincoln, as Green, who was named
as the Lincoln City's Player of the 2007/08 Season, is an
integral part of Lincoln's defence. He has made 93
appearances for The Imps since signing from Aston Villa
in January 2007.
Ironically, the answer would be to switch Lee Beevers
from left-back to his more favoured right-back position.
This though is unlikely to occur as Beevers, whose
contract expires at the end of this month, is expected to
leave the club. It is likely that Beevers will reject a
new contract offer, which was made to him in January and
re-offered to him last month.
Beevers has been heavily linked with Motherwell, but
there is now a proverbial spanner in the the works as
Motherwell manager Mark McGhee is favourite for the
vacant manager's position at Aberbeen. Beevers is also
being linked with a move to Colchester United.
This leaves Jackson with a dilemma: should he sign two
new full-backs or not? The only alternatives that he
currently has to Beevers and Green are youth team players
combined with deploying left-midfielder Aaron Brown as an
emergency left-back. This was a tactic that Jackson
employed at the start of last season but it was clear
that Brown is not a left-back. In fact, by doing this,
new signing Brown came in for a lot of criticism from
supporters who believed that he was a dreadful signing.
It was only when Brown was moved to his left midfield
role, that supporters could see that he was an asset to
the team.
