Ex-Manchester United Player Signs!

9th June 2009

Lincoln City FC have today signed one of the promised strikers.

Last week, it was announced that Lincoln City were close to signing two unnamed strikers; today, The Imps have signed Chris Fagan.

20-year-old Fagan is a Republic of Ireland Under-21 International; he has so far won two caps at this level. Earlier in his career Fagan represented his country at Under-17 and Under-19 levels.

He began his career at Irish club Home Farm as a teenager but was plucked from the club by Manchester United when he was sixteen. Although he never made a first team appearance for Manchester United, he was a vital player in their 2006/07 season's Youth Cup team. Unfortunately for Fagan, he was on the losing side as Liverpool defeated his Manchester United side via penalties in the Youth Cup Final.

Worse news though was to follow as in June 2008, Fagan was released by Manchester United. Despite having offers from other clubs, he rather usually opted to join Glenn Hoddle's Soccer Academy in Spain. The academy helps young players like Fagan to receive professional coaching in the aim of them returning to the professional game.

Earlier this year, Fagan had a trial at Huddersfield Town where he scored a hat-trick in a reserve game. He has also featured on trial for Colchester United. Fagan ended the 2008/09 season on the books of Scottish Premier League club Hamilton Academical, although he failed to make a first team appearance.

Fagan has agreed a two-year contract with Lincoln, subject to a medical.
