Leicester City To Tie Up Dany?
13th June 2009
This might not come as shock, since TFI first reported
this on April 14th 2009, but Leicester City are winning
the race to sign Lincoln City winger Dany N'Guessan. In
fact, according to sources in Leicester, it could all be
confirmed earlier next week.
According to the local Leicester sources, it is reported
that Leicester have agreed terms with N'Guessan. However,
there is a sticking point with the deal, that being the
amount payable to Lincoln in compensation.
Lincoln are believed to want £400,000 for the French
winger, which Leicester consider is too high. The Imps
are holding out for that amount as they have to offset a
33% sell-on clause payable to Glasgow Rangers as agreed
when N'Guessan joined Lincoln in January 2007.
As N'Guessan is under 24-years of age, the club that do
sign him will have to pay Lincoln compensation. In
January, The Imps rejected a six-figure bid for the
player from MK Dons so that could be the guideline should
the negotiations head to a Football League tribunal,
which now appears likely. Lincoln offered N'Guessan a new
contract that would have made him the highest paid player
at the club; this too should go in Lincoln's favour
should a tribunal be required to set the transfer fee.
N'Guessan has been watched by numerous clubs this year
including Doncaster Rovers, Ipswich Town, Leeds United,
MK Dons, Nottingham Forest, Reading, Sheffield United and
Sheffield Wednesday. Several clubs though have lost
interest, with only Ipswich Town emerging as serious
rivals to Leicester's bid.
Unfortunately for Lincoln, even if Ipswich do enter
negotiations to sign N'Guessan, it will be of little
benefit to them as N'Guessan is free to sign for the club
of his choosing and not the one that agrees a deal with
Lincoln. However, if Ipswich were to offer Lincoln's
asking price of £400,000 then this would also go in
Lincoln's favour should a tribunal be required to mediate
between Leicester and Lincoln.
