Llaneli Sign Former Imp
17th June 2009
Former Lincoln City winger Owain Warlow has returned to
his Welsh roots to sign for Llanelli of the Principality
Welsh Premier League.
Welsh-born Warlow was released last month by Lincoln City
FC after a disappointing three years as a professional
player. He was one of a number of youth team players
granted a professional contract at Lincoln City in July
2006. At the time, there was high hopes for Warlow as he
had impressed while on loan at Ilkeston Town during the
previous season.
Warlow's promise had not gone unnoticed by the Welsh
national team management and he was called-up to the
Welsh Under-21 squad in February 2007 before he had even
made his first team debut at Lincoln. Unfortunately,
Warlow would only represent the Welsh Under-21 side just
once, as he was dropped from their squad for their next
fixture.
That though did not seem to matter at the time, as he
forced his way into The Imps' first team towards the end
of the 2006/07 season. Such was his promise that he was
named as Lincoln City FC's Young Player of the Season for
2006/07.
This was the pinnacle of his career so far, as the
following season Warlow was unable to break into the
Lincoln City first team although he did make numerous
substitute appearances. A change of Imps' manager
practically finished off his Lincoln City career and he
spent the last 18 months of his contract unable to make
the matchday squad bar the odd inclusion; it was little
surprise when he was released in May 2009.
