One of characters in the history of Lincoln City Football
has announced he is leaving the club.
Romanian Adrian Patulea has today confirmed that he will
join League One club Leyton Orient on July 1st, when his
current contract at Lincoln expires.
Patulea wrote his name into the folklore of The Imps when
he was spotted running around the training ground
carrying his wife in a piggyback. He promptly asked Imps'
boss Peter Jackson for a trial, which he was granted.
After impressing in pre-season friendlies, Lincoln
overcame red tape to sign Patulea for 17,000 Euros from
his Romanian club side.
He made a goal scoring debut on 6th September 2008 in
Lincoln's 2-0 victory over Barnet. Despite showing
initial promise, Jackson dropped Patulea towards the end
of the year. From then onwards it was an uphill battle
for Patulea to regain his starting place. He did achieve
this in March time but injury ended his season
prematurely.
Overall, Patulea scored eleven goals in thirty-three
appearances although nearly half of these appearances
were as a substitute.
Patulea had been offered a new contract back in January
but he rejected those terms. Lincoln then offered improve
terms but again, the player was unhappy and officially
turned down this offer last week.
Lincoln will receive no compensation for Patulea as he is
over the age of 24.
