Leicester City Sign Dany
27th June 2009
As TFI reported on June 13th, Leicester City and Dany
N'Guessan have officially completed the player's move to
the newly promoted Championship club.
Unfortunately, as we also reported, a compensation deal
between Leicester City and Lincoln City has yet to be
agreed meaning that the two clubs will take pot luck at a
tribunal although Lincoln are still hopeful that a last
minute package can be agreed.
According to reports in Leicester, Lincoln want £400,000
for the French winger, which Leicester consider is too
high. The Imps are holding out for that amount as they
have to offset a 33% sell-on clause payable to Glasgow
Rangers as agreed when N'Guessan joined Lincoln in
January 2007.
As N'Guessan is under 24-years of age, Leicester City
will have to pay Lincoln compensation. In January, The
Imps rejected an undisclosed six-figure bid for the
player from MK Dons so that could be the guideline should
the negotiations head to a Football League tribunal,
which now appears likely. Lincoln offered N'Guessan a new
contract that would have made him the highest paid player
at the club; this too should go in Lincoln's favour
should a tribunal be required to set the transfer fee.
N'Guessan has been watched by numerous clubs this year
including Doncaster Rovers, Ipswich Town, Leeds United,
MK Dons, Nottingham Forest, Reading, Sheffield United and
Sheffield Wednesday. Several clubs though soon lost
interest, with only Ipswich Town emerging as serious
rivals to Leicester's bid. However, Leicester were always
the favourites to sign N'Guessan, who has penned a
three-year contract.
The talented winger joined Lincoln on a free transfer
from Rangers in January 2007 and went on to score 17
goals in 99 appearances for The Imps.
