According to reports, Michael O'Connor could be set for a
return to Lincolnshire but unfortunately, not with
Lincoln City!
O'Connor, who currently plays for Crewe Alexandra, is
wanted by several clubs including Lincoln. It is now
reported that newly promoted Championship club Scunthorpe
United are also in the hunt for the midfielder.
Lincoln's interest is widely known, as O'Connor is
already an Imps' fans' favourite after spending two
months on loan at Sincil Bank towards the end of last
season. He featured in ten league games for Lincoln,
scoring one goal. His performances were one of the few
bright spots in Lincoln's indifferent end to the season.
After returning to Crewe from Lincoln in May, his next
match was for Northern Ireland in their 3-0 defeat to
Italy on 6th June.
O'Connor's future at Crewe is in doubt as he had a
falling out with Crewe's manager Gudjon Thordarson during
last season hence the loan to Lincoln. However,
Thordarson stated upon O'Connor's return that the player
could still have a future at Crewe.
Scottish Premier League club Hibernian took O'Connor on
trial last month but it is thought that their interest
might have now ended. This put Lincoln in a prime
position to sign O'Connor, although not in a permanent
deal, but for a season's long loan. There is a doubt
whether this would happen as following Crewe's relegation
to League Two, it means that Lincoln and Crewe are now
divisional rivals.
The news that Scunthorpe want him, is another blow for
Lincoln this week, following on from the departures of
Dany N'Guessan, Lee Beevers and Adrian Patulea.
