Play It Again Sam? Oh Dear...

30th June 2009

Lincoln City FC have embarked on their mini-tour of Germany this week, but one player has decided to stay at home.

That player is Sam Mullarkey, who is currently out of contract. The Official Lincoln City website is stating that Mullarkey has now departed the club after declining an offer to undertake pre-season training in Germany

Whether Mullarkey's decision is correct is open to much criticism as the player hardly featured for The Imps last season - his one and only season at Sincil Bank. He obviously feels that he can obtain regular first team football elsewhere - maybe he can but it is doubtful that he will gain it at a Football League club.

Perhaps Mullarkey was frustrated with his lack of opportunity to play in his correct position of striker. Instead, Lincoln City manager Peter Jackson deployed Mullarkey as a winger, which was not his best position.

In total, Mullarkey played 18 times for Lincoln, but only seven of these were starts. He managed just one goal, albeit a spectacular one, in his Imps career, which came at home to Notts County.

Mullarkey's departure leaves Lincoln with just three professional strikers on their books: Jamie Clarke, Chris Fagan and Lenell John-Lewis.
