FA Cup: Mum, We're On The Tele!

Play and win at Royal Rummy

11th November 2009

Lincoln City FC are set for an unexpected cashfall as their FA Cup second round tie at Northwich Victoria is to be televised.

The really good news is that the tie is to be shown on ITV1, so everyone can watch it for free! As a result, the match has been moved to lunchtime on Saturday 29th November.

The television coverage will net The Imps £70,000 alone; should they win the tie, then they will be awarded another £27,000. Add in a share of the gate receipts and the potential cash generated from the tie will be over £100,000. Then, on top of that, you can add the possibility of a money-spinning third round tie - that though is for later as this tie is by no means a certainty for Lincoln.

Imps' boss Chris Sutton is certainly not taking anything for granted and said: "It is a tough draw, but it's in our hands and hopefully we can reproduce the same performance as we showed on Saturday (against AFC Telford)."

Confidence is also high in the Northwich Victoria camp who fancy their chances against Lincoln City - after their win against Charlton Athletic, you would expect nothing else.

Wayne Riley, hero of that match, is already dreaming of the third round. Speaking to the Macclesfield Express he said: "We have got to beat Lincoln of course but I’m dreaming of my favourite player, Steven Gerrard coming here. (Manchester) United would be OK but my second choice would be (Manchester) City, who I support and was with at their academy until I was 15 when I was released."

Both teams have already received £18,000 in prize money for winning their first round matches. Prior to the matches, Lincoln City's board promised that Sutton would be given any money generated from the FA Cup towards strengthening his squad....how, we need to beat Northwich!
