News Round-up (21/11/09)

21st November 2009
Due to work constraints this week, TFI can only provide a
news round-up; still, that will save having to make an
interesting piece for today's match against Grimsby Town!
The match ended as a 0-0 and in truth was not pretty to
watch. Both sides proved that they are facing a
relegation battle unless they can bring in some new
players.
In Lincoln's case, they desperately require a striker who
can score. We have the defence relatively stable but
without a striker, the team is always in danger of losing
1-0, no matter how good the defence.
Our we going in the right direction? Certainly, there
have been improvements since Chris Sutton was appointed
manager. Namely, we are now reasonably difficult to beat
but it comes back to a lack of goals; just 11 in 17
league games.
I often criticised Peter Jackson for playing strikers as
wingers. Something I find pleasing is that Sutton has
brought specialists wingers to the club in the shape of
Khano Smith and Sergio Torres. Smith though is still
adapting to the English game but hopefully he will soon
be consistent over ninety minutes.
The bad news for Lincoln is that Torres has been
sidelined with an ankle injury and is not expected to
play again until the New Year. Torres has been the star
player for Lincoln since joining on loan from
Peterborough United; he will be missed.
Also missing for Lincoln today was Aaron Brown and Ian
Pearce who have been handed a three match ban for their
dismissal against Cheltenham Town last week. Sutton is
also in trouble as he has been charged with improper
conduct by the FA and could face a touchline ban if found
guilty.
It was not all bad from the Cheltenham match as debutante
Michael Gordon was named in the Football League's League
Two team of the week.
