GUY BRANSTON
Born: 9th January 1979 in Leicester.

Position: central defender.

Lincoln City career: 6 appearances between August-September 1999.

Clubs: Leicester City, Colchester, Plymouth, Lincoln City, Rotherham, Wycombe, Peterborough and Oldham.

Guy Branston joined Lincoln City, due a defensive injury crisis in August 1999, on a month's loan from Leicester City. He was spotted after impressing in a pre-season friendly against Lincoln, and while on loan, he received praise for his defensive displays and for his willingness to join the attack.

He failed to make a first team appearance for Leicester but played on loan at Colchester and Plymouth. Then Imps' manager John Reames stated, to the surprise of the Lincoln supporters, that he had no interest in signing Branston on a permanent contract.

In October 1999, he joined third division rivals Rotherham on loan, where he also impressed but Rotherham had more sense than Lincoln and quickly signed Branston on a permanent deal. He was to play a major role in Rotherham's climb to the old first division from the third.

After five years, Rotherham decided to release Branston, and he joined Sheffield Wednesday. He also played on loan at Wycombe and Peterborough United, but after less than a year at Sheffield Wednesday he left to join Oldham Athletic in a permanent transfer.

In summer 2006, Branston made a return to Peterborough United but things turned sour by the end of the season when he was told that he was no longer needed by Peterborough.

Mike Turner - formerly of Lincoln City FCBorn: 2nd April 1976 in Stoke.

Position: striker.

Lincoln City Career: 0 appearances between September - October 1999.

Clubs: Redditch, Southport, Bliston, Lincoln City, Finn Harps, Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers.

Mike Turner made a dream Barnsley debut when he scored one goal and assisted another, thereby helping Barnsley to overcome promotion chasing Ipswich at Portman Road in 1999.

He later started two more matches at Barnsley plus a further eleven substitute appearances but he could not add to his goals tally. Barnsley beat off tough competition to secure Turner's signature from non-league Bliston Town in 1998. A nominal fee was involved for the 6 foot 2 inch striker, who had also played for Southport.

Turner signed on initial month's loan at Sincil Bank with a permanent move mooted. However, this was not to be as he returned to Oakwell without making a first-team appearance for Lincoln because of injury.

His career at Barnsley failed to take off and he was loaned to Finn Harps and Doncaster Rovers. He impressed at Doncaster sufficiently to earn a permanent transfer in January 2001.

RICHARD BUTCHER
Born: 22nd January 1981.

Position: midfielder.

Lincoln City career: 117+(9) appearances and 13 goals between November 2002 - June 2005 and October 2005 - November 2005.

Previous Clubs: Northampton, Rushden & Diamonds, Kettering, Lincoln City and Oldham Athletic.

Current club: Peterborough United.

Richard Butcher began his career at Northampton in August 1999 as a youth trainee. He was released a year later without making his debut, upon which he joined Rushden and Diamonds.

Within a year, and still having not made his Football League debut, he signed for then Dr. Marten's club Kettering Town in August 2001. The 2001/02 season saw Butcher become a vital member of their successful Championship winning team, a side that also contained former Lincoln City players Kevin Austin and Ian Bowling.

He carried his form into the 2002/03 season by making 18 appearances for Kettering plus scoring four goals. This form attracted the attention of then Imps' boss Keith Alexander, who gave seven days notice for Butcher's release in November 2002.

Butcher made his Lincoln debut against his former employers of Rushden & Diamonds. He was given a regular first team spot when he deputised for the suspended Scott Willis and he never looked back, thereby leaving Willis to look on from the substitutes' bench.

By May 2005, Butcher had helped Lincoln City to qualification for the League Two play-offs for three consecutive seasons. Disappointment would follow in all three seasons thereby leading to Butcher quitting Sincil Bank in favour of higher league football with Oldham Athletic.

Butcher failed to initially settle at Oldham, which caused a dip in his form. As a result, he became a target for a section of Oldham's supporters, who hurled some dreadful abuse at him. The solution was for Butcher to spend a month on loan with Lincoln City between October and November 2005.

During his loan spell, Butcher told the local media that he wished to stay at Lincoln for good rather than return to Oldham. Return to Oldham he did do, but this time, his form was back to its best and Oldham's fans began to like him.

It appeared that Butcher would see out his three year contract at Oldham but events suddenly changed in May 2006 when he was granted a free transfer. Speculation immediately linked him with a move to Lincoln City, but once Alexander left The Imps, this was a non-starter. Despite interest from other clubs, Butcher opted to rejoin Alexander at Peterborough United in June 2006. However, following Alexander's sacking, Butcher was told that he was no longer required by Peterborough.
