BEN SEDGEMORE
Born: 5th August 1975 in Wolverhampton.

Position: central midfielder.

Lincoln City career: 93+(28) appearances, scoring 5 goals between February 2001 and May 2004.

Previous clubs: Birmingham, Northampton, Peterborough, Mansfield, Macclesfield, Lincoln City and Canvey Island.

Ben Sedgemore began his career at Birmingham City in 1993 as a trainee but failed to make a first team appearance, although he did play for both Northampton Town and Mansfield Town while on loan. By 1996, Barry Fry - having been sacked as Birmingham's manager - was now in charge at Peterborough United and Fry quickly signed Sedgemore after his release from Birmingham City.

Mansfield were also in the hunt for his signature following his release from Birmingham, so perhaps it was little surprise that he rejoined Mansfield just eight months after signing for Peterborough. He spent the next two seasons at Mansfield before he agreed to join Macclesfield for £25,000 in 1998.

Lincoln City fans first recall Sedgemore from his part in the infamous mass brawl between Lincoln and Macclesfield in 1999. When Sedgemore signed for Lincoln City there were still a number of Imps' players who were involved in the brawl; luckily there was no animosity shown towards him. Sedgemore signed for The Imps for a nominal fee of £10,000 paid by former Imps' manager Phil Stant, in what was practically his last act as Lincoln City manager.

However in June 2001, Sedgemore was placed on the transfer-list by new manager Alan Buckley and his Lincoln career looked over before it had really begun. Despite being transfer-listed, he managed to become a regular in Lincoln City's midfield although as his Imps' career progressed, he became more of a fringe player.

With Lincoln's finances remaining in a critical condition, it was a surprise to many fans that he was offered a new contract for the 2003/04 season. Once again, he spent the 2003/04 season on the fringe of a long-term first team run but his luck ran out and he was released in May 2004. Upon his release he joined Conference club Canvey Island.

TONY LORMOR
Tony Lormor - former Lincoln City Football Club playerBorn: 29th October 1970 in Ashington.

Position: striker.

Lincoln City career: 113 appearances and 35 goals between January 1990 - July 1994.

Clubs: Newcastle United, Norwich, Lincoln City, Peterborough United, Chesterfield, Preston, Notts County, Mansfield Town, Hartlepool United, Shrewsbury and Telford United.

Tony Lormor was signed for Lincoln City in January 1990 by the then manager Colin Murphy, when Lincoln's policy was to attract young players from top clubs - in Lormor's case it was Newcastle United.

It was surprising that Newcastle agreed to let Lormor leave as he was just beginning to establish himself at St. James' Park by scoring three times in eight appearances. Murphy paid Newcastle £30,000 for his services and it was a bargain as Lormor finished top scorer for the next three seasons at Sincil Bank.

Unfortunately for Lormor and Lincoln City in general, Murphy departed The Imps just six months after signing him. Lincoln would embark on four mangers in three seasons and this lack of continuity damaged the club. Lormor was a class player for Lincoln and his goals deserved promotion but it was not to be.

Worse followed in 1993 when Lormor sustained cruciate knee ligament damage that forced him to miss most of the 1993/94 season. The injury prompted Lincoln to release him and he joined Peterborough for six months, yet he was still not match fit, so Peterborough also released him.

Lormor joined Chesterfield on December 23rd 1994 and he proved an excellent Christmas present for Chesterfield's supporters. During the three years he spent at Chesterfield, he scored 47 goals in 135 appearances thereby showing the form that first attracted Murphy all those years ago.

His goals helped Chesterfield to gain promotion from the third division before he transferred to Chesterfield's then promotion rivals Preston North End. The deal was slightly unusual as it was a straight swap deal involving striker David Reeves, who was experiencing a torrid time at Preston. It seemed that Reeves' bad luck had also been switched to Lormor as Preston's supporters quickly vented their criticism at him.

He appeared just twenty times for Preston during his six months at the club and scored 3 times. His 1993 injury resulted in him losing some of his sharpness and possibly this was more apparent at a bigger club like Preston or maybe he needed the fresh air of the East Midlands to find his form. This could have been Preston's reasoning for sending him on loan to Notts County but he failed to score in seven appearances. However, it was a good enough loan period to alert County's near neighbours Mansfield, who bought Lormor for £15,000 in July 1998.

Lormor returned to his native north-east in a £30,000 move to Hartlepool United in August 2000. As his football career neared its end, he had brief spells at Shrewsbury and Telford United.

If Murphy had stayed at Lincoln and had Lormor not suffered his horrendous injury, then there is little doubt that he could have played at a much higher level. Lormor still has fond memories of his time at Lincoln even though he was not given sufficient time at Sincil Bank to prove himself after his injury. His release on a free transfer was obviously a mistake and it was one that John Reames did try to rectify by enquiring about Lormor's availability whilst at Chesterfield. Even though Lormor trained with John Beck's Lincoln for a couple of days, a deal was unable to be agreed and he returned to Chesterfield; five months later he joined Preston.

After retiring from playing, Lormor switched to refereeing.
