Retro Lincoln City FC
JOHN VAUGHAN
Born: 26th
June 1964 in Isleworth.Lincoln
City career: 77 appearances between August 1996 -
May 2000.
Clubs:
West Ham, Fulham, Bristol Rovers, Wrexham,
Colchester, Cambridge, Charlton, Preston North
End, Chesterfield and Lincoln City.
John
Vaughan was a favourite of John Beck, who worked
with Vaughan at Cambridge, Preston and Lincoln.
Vaughan signed for Lincoln City on a free
transfer in August 1996.
He
did not always have an easy time at Lincoln, as
he was often criticised by the supporters but
following his recall to the side during the
1998/99 season, he secured the No.1 spot from
Barry Richardson. This reversed during 1999/2000
season and Vaughan found himself looking for a
new club after he was made a scapegoat for
Lincoln's poor start to the season. Ironically,
he came close to leaving during summer 1999, as
Northampton Town had expressed an interest.
Vaughan,
in November 1999, turned down a loan move to
Carlisle before accepting a loan contract from
Colchester United, where he played six matches.
After returning to Lincoln, he joined
Chesterfield originally on loan but with a view
to a permanent transfer. Terms could not be
agreed and in April 2000, it was announced by
Chairman John Reames that Vaughan would leave
Lincoln on a free transfer at the end of the
season. In reality, Vaughan left The Imps with
immediate effect and drifted into non-league
football briefly before turning to coaching.

BARRY RICHARDSON
Born: 5th
August 1969 in Wallsend.Lincoln
City career: 150 appearances between November
1995 and May 2000.
Present
club: Doncaster Rovers.
Previous
clubs: Sunderland, Scarborough, Stockport,
Northampton, Preston, Mansfield, Lincoln City,
Doncaster Rovers and Halifax Town.
Barry
Richardson played at the same boys' club as Alan
Shearer, before joining Sunderland as an
apprentice. However, he never made the grade at
Sunderland and left to join Scarborough before
subsequent transfers to Northampton and Preston.
Richardson
was John Beck's first signing for Lincoln when he
paid £20,000 to Preston. Richardson quickly
became a crowd favourite but alas, he was not
always a managers' favourite and in May 1999, the
then manager/chairman John Reames placed him on
the transfer list stating that "Barry has no
future at this football club". That was
before John Vaughan was rumoured to be leaving
the Imps, although Vaughan would stay so
Richardson was loaned to Mansfield with a view to
a permanent deal.
Richardson
rejected the permanent move to Mansfield by
choosing to return to Lincoln, where he was
astounded to be recalled to the first team.
However, after a serious of bad errors, he was
dropped in February 2000 and replaced by Alan
Marriott.
Richardson
in March 2000, was the subject of a shock
transfer approach by Premiership side Sheffield
Wednesday. His loan move to Hillsborough has to
be one of the most unexpected transfers that
Lincoln City have ever been party to. Soon
afterwards, Reames announced that Richardson
would leave Lincoln on a free transfer in June
2000. Upon his release, he joined non-league
Doncaster Rovers, then of the Conference
division.
Halifax
Town gave Richardson a surprise return to the
Football League when they signed him in December
2001. By now, Doncaster had run into financial
trouble and were releasing players - including
Richardson - while Halifax's goalkeeper Lee
Butler (himself a former Imps' goalkeeper) was
forced to retire through injury. The gap in
Halifax's goal was soon filled by Richardson,
where he stayed until rejoining Doncaster as a
goalkeeping player-coach.

MARK CAMM
Born: 1st October 1981 in
Mansfield.Position:
central defence or right-back.
Lincoln City
career: 14+(26) appearances between August 2000 -
January 2004.
Clubs: Sheffield
United, Lincoln City, Gainsborough Trinity,
King's Lynn and Ilkeston Town.
Mark Camm was a
promising youngster who began his career as a
trainee at Sheffield United but despite
captaining their reserve side, he was unable to
break into their first team.
He joined Lincoln
originally on trial in April 2000 in the
knowledge that he would be leaving Sheffield
United in the July. He impressed but as City's
finances were in a poor state, the best that they
could offer him was a three month contract
commencing August 2000
In December 2000,
whilst on month-to-month contracts, Camm made his
Lincoln City FC debut against Rochdale due to an
injury crisis. The prolonged injury crisis saw
Lincoln renew his contract until May 2001
although his first team appearances were limited.
He signed a new
contract keeping him at Lincoln until May 2001,
which was later renewed by a further year to May
2002. Another injury crisis occurred in November
2001 and he was played in his alternative
position of right-back. He took his chance well
and seemed to have become a first team regular.
However, Camm was dropped as soon as Mark Bailey
regained fitness.
Although Camm
spent a large part of the 2002/03 season on loan
at Gainsborough Trinity, his contract was
surprisingly renewed by yet a further year in May
2002. However, he continued to remain on the
fringe of a first team run. Camm was loaned to
Kings' Lynn during the 2003/04 season before
accepting a severance deal from Lincoln City.
After leaving
Lincoln City he joined Kings' Lynn permanently
before signing for Ilkeston Town in June 2005.
