Chris
Perkins began his career as a trainee at
Mansfield in 1992. However, after two years and
just nine appearances, he was given a free
transfer. This proved Mansfield's loss and
Chesterfield's gain as Perkins quickly
established himself in the Chesterfield first
team to became a member of the squad that
undertook that famous FA Cup run in 1997 when
they lost in the semi-final.
That
day marked a decline period for Chesterfield, and
Perkins was one of the players who suffered, by
finding himself on the fringe of the first team.
In July 1999, he joined Hartlepool United on a
Bosman transfer but things failed to work out and
he rejoined Chesterfield for two loan spells.
Chesterfield resigned Perkins in a permanent deal
in May 2000, and all looked well. However, a
change of manager saw Perkins placed on the
transfer list.
Perkins
joined Lincoln in February 2001, on a short-term
contract, which was not extended when it expired
in May 2001. He then drifted into non-league
football with Lancaster.
