Despite only
signing a professional contract in August 2003,
Niall McNamara was already a familiar name to
Lincoln's supporters as he spent the final two
months of the 2002/03 season on non-contract
terms. The terms of that deal allowed McNamara to
be available to play for The Imps if required,
otherwise he would continue playing for his
current club Belper Town; he was not needed.
The summer of 2003
saw McNamara feature regularly in Lincoln City's
pre-season games, scoring several goals, which
earnt him a full-time contract.
Irish born
McNamara originally began his career at
Nottingham Forest as a trainee in August 2000.
Forest released him a year later and he joined
Notts County where he made four substitute
appearances for The Magpies. In April 2002, he
was released by County and signed for UniBond
First Division club Belper Town.
He remained on the
fringe of Lincoln's first team run until injury
ended his 2003/04 season in January 2004. He was
released in May 2004 but returned in August 2004
on monthly contract. In September 2004 he joined
Eastwood Town on loan.
McNamara was
eventually released in December 2004 and he went
on to join Eastwood Town, where he played
alongside his former ex-Imps' team-mates Adam
Kerley and Richard Liburd.
