TONY BATTERSBY
Tony Battersby - formerly of Lincoln City Football ClubBorn: 30th August 1975 in Doncaster.

Position: striker.

Lincoln City career: 111+(39) appearances and 26 goals between August 1998 - October 2002.

Previous Clubs: Sheffield Utd, Southend Utd, Notts County, Bury, Northampton, Lincoln City, Boston United, Rushden & Diamonds, Stevenage, Gravesend and Grays.

Present Club: AFC Wimbledon.

Tony Battersby became Lincoln City FC's joint record signing when then Imps' manager Shane Westley was persuaded to pay £75,000 to Bury in August 1998. However, Battersby did little to warrant the fee, especially as his last Division Two goal came in early February 1999 which contributed to Lincoln's relegation in 1999.

Lincoln's supporters expected far more from Battersby for the 1999/2000 season as he would now play against lower division opposition. Unfortunately, they never really found out if he could improve his performances as then manager John Reames appeared to write Battersby off, thereby giving him limited first team opportunities.

In September 1999, he joined rivals Northampton Town on loan with a view to a permanent move; except the departure of Northampton's manager Ian Atkins meant that Battersby returned to Lincoln even before his loan expired. From the seventeen first team appearances made, Battersby scored three goals which gave many Imps' the opinion that he should have been playing more regularly during the 1999/2000 season. Yet, he continued to be played in the reserves without any real hope of a recall to the first-team.

Things got so bad that he was made available on a free transfer despite having a year of his contract to run - it is now known that Lincoln City's financial problems attributed to Battersby's lack of first team appearances. Doncaster Rovers and Carlisle United were said to be interested in signing Battersby but neither cemented their early interest.

Battersby was recalled to the Lincoln side when Alan Buckley took over as Lincoln City FC's manager in March 2001, Buckley's style suited Battersby and his form dramatically improved, hence he was given a new contract at the end of the 2000/01 season.

That though proved a major mistake as Battersby would return to his indifferent form. With over a year of his contract remaining, Battersby was released by Lincoln via a payoff in October 2002.

Upon leaving Lincoln City he stayed playing in the Football League with first, Boston United and then later with Rushden and Diamonds. After leaving Rushden, he drifted into the non-league pyramid and now plays for AFC Wimbledon.

DAVID CAMERON
Dave Cameron - formerly of Lincoln City FCBorn: 24th August 1975 in Scotland.

Position: striker

Lincoln City career: 39+(34) appearances and 11 goals between May 2000 - May 2002.

Clubs: Brighton, St. Mirren, Worthing, Lincoln City, Chester City, Droylsden, Telford United, Tamworth and Halifax Town.

Current club: Rhyl.

Dave Cameron, who was Phil Stant's first ever signing, joined The Imps in May 2000.

He was an unknown quantity who began his career as a youth trainee at St. Mirren, where he made ten appearances and scored two goals. This persuaded Micky Adams, the then Brighton manager, to take a chance by offering Cameron a transfer. Cameron joined Brighton and Hove Albion in July 1999 on a free transfer. His stay at Brighton though was brief; after starting eight matches and appearing as a substitute in a further fourteen, he had failed to score a single goal. This persuaded Brighton to release Cameron in February 2000.

From Brighton, he joined their near neighbours Worthing in March 2000, where he had more success in front of goal. During his nine games for Worthing, he scored nine goals; with five coming in the same match. Lincoln, who had already taken an interest after he had played against them for Brighton, offered Cameron a trial against Middlesborough in Grant Brown's testimonial match. He impressed so much that within a week, Stant had concluded the deal therby beating Brentford and Rushden & Diamonds to sign Cameron on free.

Alas, things did not work at Lincoln and Cameron was placed on the transfer list. Alan Buckley, who took over from Stant, never favoured Cameron and it was little surprise that his contract was not renewed in May 2002.

After leaving Lincoln, he joined Chester City but after 2 months, he was placed on their transfer list. He has since played for Droylsden, Telford United, Tamworth and was released by Halifax Town in June 2004.

Cameron re-emerged in August 2006 when he signed for Welsh club Rhyl.

MARTIN GRITTON
Born: 1st June 1978 in Glasgow.

Position: striker.

Lincoln City career: 10+(20) appearances and 3 goals between January 2006 - June 2007.

Previous clubs: Plymouth Argyle, Yeovil Town, Torquay United, Grimbsy Town, Mansfield Town and Lincoln City.

Martin Gritton began his professional career at Plymouth Argyle, while studying at Portsmouth University. During his four years at Plymouth, he scored 9 times from 20 starts plus a further 34 substitute appearances.

During his time at Plymouth, he had loan spells at then non-league Yeovil Town, Irish league club Shelbourne and Torquay United. He impressed sufficiently to earn a permanent contract at Torquay where their supporters used to sign "Martin Gritton, he's a yellow goal machine" to the tune of The Beatles' song "Yellow Submarine".

His stay at Torquay lasted just over two years before he departed the South Coast. During this time, he scored 25 from 76 starts plus a further 19 substitute appearances.

Gritton departed Torquay in December 2004 to join Grimsby where he scored 6 times from 30 starts plus a further 23 substitute appearances. His final appearance for Grimsby came just 48 hours before he joined Lincoln on January 30th.

The following week, he made his Imps' debut and scored a debut goal to help Lincoln City record a 3-2 win at Stockport County. That though was to prove the highlight of his Lincoln City career of the 2005/06 season. Several matches later, he was initially dropped to the substitutes' bench before altogether losing his place in the matchday squad.

Gritton failed to win back his first team place at Sincil Bank during the 2006/07 season. Instead, he joined Mansfield Town on a three month loan deal before being released by Lincoln in June 2007. He quickly found new employment when Macclesfield Town signed him in June 2007.
