DAVID POPPLETON
Dave Poppleton - a former Lincoln City FC playerBorn: 19th December 1979 in Doncaster.

Position: midfielder.

Lincoln City career: 5+(2) appearances between August 1999 - December 1999.

Clubs: Everton, Lincoln City and Alfreton Town.

David Poppleton signed in August 1999 on an initial three-month contract from Everton. He later extended his contract by a further one month in November 1999.

Poppleton, despite tough competition for a place in the Imps' midfield, immediately claimed a first team place where he impressed Lincoln's supporters with his skill and determination. Soon after establishing himself in the first team, a back injury caused him to miss two months and he was unable to regain his place in Lincoln's side. When his one month contract expired, the decision was taken to release him.

Whilst at Everton, he played alongside Francis Jeffers and Danny Cadamarteri in Everton's winning F.A. Youth Cup side of 1997/98.

He joined non-league Alfreton Town after leaving Lincoln City.

DAVID BEAVON
David Beavon - a former Lincoln City Football Club playerBorn: 8th December 1961 in Nottingham.

Lincoln City career 8 appearances, between 1981-82.

Position: full-back.

Clubs: Notts C, Lincoln City, Northampton and Boston United.

David Beavon was a full-back, who was signed by Colin Murphy to become a member of one of the most talented squads that Lincoln City have ever assembled. Beavon is often mentioned, so it is surprising to find that he only appeared eight times for The Imps.

Beavon is one of the few players from the 1981/82 season's squad not to play football in the highest division. While his colleagues transferred to more famous clubs, he tried his luck in Hong Kong before returning to league football with Northampton Town. Beavon later joined then non-league Boston United, as so many ex-City players did at the time.

JUDE STIRLING
Born: 29th July 1982 in Enfield.

Position: full-back, centre half or striker.

Lincoln City career: 0+(6) appearances between January - May 2006

Previous clubs: Wimbledon, Luton Town, Stevenage Borough, St. Albans, Dover Athletic, Tamworth, Oxford United, Lincoln City and Peterborough United.

Current club: MK Dons.

The transfer of Jude Stirling from Oxford United was conducted very quickly, as Oxford only notified other clubs of Stirling's availability on January 17th 2006. He was still scheduled to play in Oxford's reserve match against Barnet on January 18th 2006 but instead, he turned out for Lincoln City's reserve for a trial.

Stirling's performance against Doncaster Rovers' reserves, a match that Lincoln won 3-1, obviously reaffirmed then Imps' boss Keith Alexander's belief in Stirling. On January 19th 2006, Stirling agreed to join Lincoln on a six month contract.

Stirling represented London County Schools as a youngster, which earnt him a place at Wimbledon, but he later left to join Luton on YTS terms. It was Luton who converted him from a striker to a defender - he can play at either fullback or central defence. He also has the ability to launch a tremendously long throw-in.

Having made 13 appearances for Luton, he left to join Stevenage Borough on loan in February 2002. He later signed permanently for Stevenage, where he stayed for almost a year before heading further into the non-league divisions with St. Albans first, and then Dover Athletic.

Conference club Tamworth gave Stirling the opportunity to play at a higher level, and he made 4 appearances for them between March to May 2005. During the summer of 2005, he impressed while on trial at Oxford United, who signed him on non-contract terms. Ironically, he made his Oxford debut at Sincil Bank, when he came on as an 80th minute substitute in Oxford's 2-1 defeat.

He started nine games plus a further five substitute appearances for Oxford before they decided to release him. It was a similar story at Lincoln City where he made just six substitute appearances for The Imps before Alexander decided against renewing his contract despite Stirling becoming a fans' favourite at Sincil Bank. A few weeks after his release from Lincoln, he agreed a one-year contract with Peterborough United, who were by now managed by Alexander.
